Argentina, the second largest country in South America, is a
vast and diverse nation known best for its romantic Tango and
political heroine Eva Peron.
The country’s capital, Buenos Aires, is one of the world’s
most sophisticated spots with excellent theatre and art, fine
restaurants and wide, elegant boulevards that give the city a
decidedly European feel.
In the rest of the country, natural beauty and charming local
customs give Argentina a flair of its own. From mile-long
Iguaçu Falls in the northeast, to the glaciers and abundant
marine life of Patagonia in the south, to gauchos, (the cowboys
who ride the immense pampas region), Argentina is a journey of
unique experiences.

Buenos Aires
is a wonderfully lively city with so
much
more to it than tango, football and Evita. You may choose to
explore the diversity of the Barrios (neighbourhoods) from the
garish colours of La Boca to the bohemian mix of tango bars and
antique shops of San Telmo or wander amongst the parks, cafes
and shops of the town centre.
Whether you want to relax, shop
or party you will find Buenos Aires accessible, cosmopolitan and
charming.
Spanning the border between Argentina and Brazil, the
Iguazu Falls
are hailed by many as the most spectacular on Earth. 5000
cubic metres of water plunge over the kilometre long lip every
second creating a sight of unrivalled power and beauty. The
falls sit within a 55,000 hectare National Park of beautiful sub
tropical rainforest that is home to a stunning array of flora
and fauna.
North-west Patagonia is known
as
the Lake District, a captivating and romantic landscape
of fairytale perfection. Crystal clear lakes and ancient forests
are set against a backdrop of snow capped peaks, lending a
magical, almost Alpine atmosphere to this lovely region.
The glaciers of the
Andes
provide some of the most stunning scenery in South America. Only
a short drive from the town of El Calafate is the stunning
Perito Moreno glacier - a must see while you are in Patagonia.
The vast, rugged and beautiful area called
Patagonia stretches
south from the Rio Colorado to Tierra del Fuego. It is a land of
wind-swept sheep stations, of exotic wild life and breath taking
Andean scenery.
The Valdes Peninsula
is a world heritage site with incredible opportunities for
watching marine mammals and bird life.
Tierra del Fuego
or The 'land of fire' is the
southernmost part of the continent and the last stop before
Antarctica. Here you can explore the most southerly town on
Earth and the Straits of Magellan.
Sitting in the shadow of the Andes,
Mendoza has become a
wine producing
region famous throughout Argentina and the wine drinking world.
The surrounding area is of picturesque vineyards and
fruit orchards running with the stunning scenery of the highest
section of the Andes lying to the west.
The scenery is fabulous and skiing, trekking and
mountain walks are all possible.
The earliest settlements in Argentina were
established by the conquistadors in the North West of the
country, today the provinces of Salta & Jujuy.
The visitor to this area is becomes vividly
aware of the influence of the early Spanish settlers and the
flavour of the Inca culture
Estancias
The best way to learn about a
distant land is to spend some time in a private home and to
share daily experiences with a local flavour. In Argentina this
is to live with the families and long time owners of Estancias.
Cattle ranchers, horse breeders and landowners let you explore
the roots of their country in style.
Horse riding, trekking, walking,
seasonal fishing and hunting are some of the Estancias
attractions for the guests who are interested in finding out
more about local people, their preferences and pastimes and
their standards and qualities of life.
By considering the seasons and
carefully choosing the location, we can select the best
Estancias to suit the scenery, wildlife and adventure of your
choice.
SOME EXAMPLES
'Los Potreros'
Swathed in 6,000 hectares of
secluded grassy wilderness at the top of the Córdoba hills,
Estancia Los Potreros is an idyllic retreat for horsemen, hikers
and nature lovers.
This working ranch breeds
Aberdeen-Angus cattle and Paso Peruano pacing horses. It has
been in the Anglo-Argentine Begg family for four generations and
offers the possibility of combining the pleasures of
British-style estancia life with long-distance riding in one of
Argentina's most interesting riding areas. On the distance
rides, participants can camp if they wish, but lodging is
generally in cosy hostels and local cottages.
Estancia life can be combined with excellent horseback riding,
golfing trips, wine tasting, walking, bird watching and vintage
car tours!
'Hosteria Alta Vista'
Hosteria Alta Vista is a charming
country-home, surrounded by 132,000 acres of beautiful, rugged
sheep-breeding land, which has been extensively renovated in
order to accommodate up to 15 guests in 6 bedrooms and a suite.
Located in Santa Cruz close to
Lago Argentino. Visits can be arranged to the impressive Perito
Moreno Glacier and boat trips to the Upsala and Onelli Glaciers.
There are also opportunities for horse riding and bird watching.
During the season you can visit
the 70 year old wooden shed where 32,000 sheep are sheared
yearly. A wonderful place to relax.
